As you can see, the answer to this question is a little bit complicated!

But, it’s not as simple as just grabbing any old dip powder and monomer and hoping for the best. 

The truth is, it takes much longer to cure and may not always work. It all depends on the type of monomer you use, color of the powder, and the brand of the product.

Which dip powder brands work as acrylic?

We did a little experiment with 6 different brands of dip powder to see which would work with monomer.

Here are the results:

• Gelish –  3 out of 8 powders tested cured fully, the rest were too soft, even after 10 minutes. Not recommended.

• Kiara Sky – 5 powders tested – 3 of the 5 dip powders we tested cured fully, 2 did not. Try it at your own risk.

• Revel nail – 8 colors tested (all worked). Highly recommended as likely to work well.

• Rossi nail – 7 colors of dip powder tested: none of them cured. Not recommended to try acrylic nails.

• Kiss dip powder – only 1 powder tested – worked perfectly. Recommended to try.

• EC dip powder – only 1 tested but worked great. Recommended trying more colors.

Pro tip! Our tests revealed that for some reason, white is the most likely color to mess up.

We recommend that you avoid trying to do acrylic nails with white dipping powder.

Can you use dip powder with monomer?
