Wanna treat yourself to some gorgeous custom press-on nails?

Or maybe you want to make some yourself and you want tips on how to do it.

In this post, we’ll answer all your burning questions about custom press on nails.

So if you want to know more about the sizing, pricing, and making of custom press-on nails, read on.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

Where to buy custom nail sets

There are plenty of nail makers and sellers out there with some amazing designs on offer.

The best places to look for stellar custom-designed nails are creative marketplaces like Etsy, and social media platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram.

The most popular place to buy customized nails is Instagram.

So, let’s take a look at some of the best sellers and see their designs!

Best custom nail sellers on Instagram

This set of custom pokemon nails sold for $200.

What are custom press on nails?

Custom press-on nails are full coverage ready-made nails that you can just stick on and wear.

They come in many different shapes, lengths, and styles.

They are usually painted with gel polish and have nail art on them that ranges from minimalist to incredibly intricate.

Most makers create their designs and then offer them in a range of sizes to accommodate different customers.

You may be asked to measure your fingernails to buy, but this is easy to do (more on that later).

You can also get custom acrylic press-on nails made to order.

In this case, the design and size will be made just for you.

How long do custom press-on nails last?

This depends on how well you take care of them and how rough you are with your nails.

If you prepare the nail surface properly, use good quality nail glue and look after your manicure, then you should be able to wear a set of custom press on nails for 10-14 days.

Submerging your nails in water will make them more likely to pop off.

You can shower while wearing your press-ons.

But you should keep showers short and don’t use your nails to scrub your scalp while washing your hair.

Wear gloves while doing dishes, and keep your nails away from harsh chemicals like bleach.

Be careful when opening cans and taking off tight clothing.

All of these things will help your press-on nails last longer.

How much do custom press-on nails cost?

This is a tough question because there are so many variables.

The price of a set of custom acrylic press on nails can range between $10 and $390.

The price depends on how much work has gone into the design and on how desirable both the design and the artist are.

For example, nailz_by_dev’s luxury press on nails online (Instagram) sell for between $250 to $390.

Handmade press on nails (especially artsy ones) usually costs more.

There are sets based on popular movies and tv shows that cost upwards of $200 (like her unique press on Hocus Pocus nails – $285 and custom Pokemon nails – $200).

But you don’t need to pay that much to get a set of cute custom nails.

Most standard sets sell for between $10 and $30.

Kiss press-on nails are widely available and are very affordable.

Long press on nails and long acrylic press on nails tend to be more expensive, so bear that in mind.

Long press on nails with designs are more expensive than short ones.

How do you package custom press on nails?

There are a few different ways to package up your press on acrylic nails.

My favorite way is to use cotton-filled jewelry boxes like these.

These types of boxes are super cute, come in a range of designs to suit your brand, and look great with the nails inside.

You could also try designing and printing out cards and sticking your DIY press-on nails to them using glue dots.

You can then package the whole thing in a clear cellophane wrap or a ziplock-style bag.

See-through boxes and even gift bags can also work well.

How do you do custom press on nails?

Doing your own custom press-on nails is fairly easy.

You’ll need some basic tools and equipment like tips, a nail lamp, files, buffers, polish, and base/top coat.

You’ll also need plenty of stuff for doing nail art like striping tape, nail foil, gems, adhesive, etc.

Here’s full in-depth guide for how to make your own custom press-on nails at home.

How do you custom fit press on nails?

There are 2 ways to custom fit clients (or yourself) for press-on nails.

The first method involves buying a set of tips in a wide variety of sizes (sizes usually range from 0-9 or 1-10).

Then physically match them up to each nail, making sure to record the sizes and which fingers they correspond to.

If you are doing this professionally, you may want to send out the full set of 10 sizes in a sample pack with instructions and guidance to help your client size themselves.

Obviously, this method has its drawbacks.

It takes time to put together these sample packs, they could get damaged in the mail or the client could size themselves incorrectly.

Plus this only tells you your size in one brand and shape of nail tips, and sizing can vary across brands and also nail shapes.

The best and most accurate method is to measure your nails using scotch tape and a biro pen.

You can find out exactly how to do this in this video tutorial.

How do you make custom-size press on nails?

Don’t worry, you don’t need to make custom press-on nails to fit each individual person.

Press-on nail tips come in 10 main sizes, most of which will fit the majority of people.

If you or a client are between sizes, you should opt for the bigger size and file it down slightly at one of the sidewalls.

It’s a good idea to pre-make your customized press-ons in a variety of sizes and give people more than they need (say a pack of 22 nails in all sizes).

As we’ve already talked about, you may want to put together a sizing press-on nails kit for clients and then use that information to choose the right-sized press-on.

How do you measure for custom press on nails?

There are a few ways that you can measure for custom press-on nails.

The first is to physically match press-on nails up to each nail, making sure to record the sizes and which fingers they are for.

If you are doing this, be aware that sizing can vary across brands and also nail shapes.

The second method is to measure your nails using scotch tape and a biro pen.

The third method involves measuring the width of your fake nails from the underside using a tape measure.

Are custom press-on nails reusable?

Yes, custom press-on nails can sometimes be reused.

You will have to take care of them very well and you will need to remove them using warm water and no harmful chemicals.

This does take a long time you’ll need to soak them for at least 20 minutes and maybe even longer depending on the glue you used.

You cannot reuse custom press on nails that have been removed using acetone.

Acetone will not break down the tip, but it will ruin the polish and the design.

Final thoughts:

Let’s have a quick recap, shall we?

Custom press-on nails are a great way to have perfect-looking nails without having to go to a salon.

They last for around 2 weeks and come in a variety of sizes, colors, lengths, and shapes like coffin, almond, and stiletto.

They are easy to apply at home, which is why they are so popular right now.

You can make your own custom-size press-on nails at home with the right tools, or you can buy them pre-made.

To measure for custom press-on nails, use scotch tape and a biro pen, or measure the width of your fake nails from the underside using a tape measure.

Custom press-on nails can be reused if you take care of them properly and remove them using warm water and no harmful chemicals.

That’s about it!

I hope that you found this post useful and happy nailing!

Curious about Gelly nail tips?

Wanna know what they’re all about?

Then this post is for you.

These soft gel tips are my new favorite nail extension method.

I tested them out and found that they are super quick and easy to do and look great!

I have had mine for about 2 weeks now and they are still going strong – no chipping or lifting at all.

If you are looking for a foolproof nail extension method that will give you beautiful, long-lasting results, then gelly nail tips are definitely worth trying.

But what are they exactly and why does everyone love them so much?

Let’s find out.

What are gelly nail tips?

bri_luxenails

Gelly nail tips are clear soft gel nail tips that have been pre-made and come in a variety of sizes, lengths, and shapes.

They are basically hard fingernails made from gel that are designed to cover the whole nail, just like a press-on.

The only difference is that you use builder gel and a UV or an LED nail lamp to fix them to your nails rather than nail glue.

Soft gel nail tips

The name “soft gel” is a little bit confusing because Gelly nail tips are not soft like nail strips for example.

They are also not “tips” in the sense that you are supposed to apply them over the entire nail bed.

Gelly nail tips cover the whole of the nail from the cuticle to the free edge and also extend the overall length of your nails.

How do you do gelly nail tips?

Gelly nail tips are super easy to do! Mine took about half an hour to apply all in.

Here are the steps to follow for perfect gelly tip nails:

The first thing you’re going to want to do is to size up the gelly tips against your natural nails. Choose the closest fit for the widest part of each nail.

Next, nail prep. Push back and or remove cuticles

File the surface of the nail plate gently then remove any dust using a lint-free wipe soaked in rubbing alcohol.

Apply a nail dehydrator to remove oils and moisture from the nail

Use 1 coat of nail primer to help the gel to stick better

Using an e-file, gently remove the shine from the inside of the Gelly tip at the bottom. Basically, you want to file only the part that will sit against your natural nail. This helps the gelly nails to stick for longer.

Apply a thin layer of builder gel to your natural nail.

Cure for 30 seconds under a nail lamp.

Apply a thin layer of builder gel to the inside of the nail tip. Only cover the part that will come into contact with your natural nail.

Gently apply the tip to your nail starting at the bottom close to the cuticle and lay it down.

Press gently and hold for a few seconds to remove any air bubbles.

Hold the gelly tip in place and cure for 10 seconds.

Cure without holding the tip for another 30 seconds.

Once the nails are secured – remove the shine from them using a 180 grit handfile (you could also do this before you apply the tips if you prefer).

Apply 2 coats of gel polish, curing each one for 30-60 seconds.

Put on a gel top coat and cure for at least 60 seconds.

To be removed, your gelly nail extensions will need to be soaked off in acetone.

Are Gelly tips better than acrylic?

Gelly tips are more flexible and more natural looking than acrylics.

They are also more comfortable to wear.

However, they are not as strong or quite as durable as acrylics and so they may not be suitable for everyone.

If you like your nails very long, or you are really hard on your nails, acrylic may be a better choice for you.

Acrylic nails are like glass, they can break or chip if you bang them too hard.

Gelly nail tips, because of their flexibility, are less likely to snap or break if you accidentally catch them on something.

How long do gelly tip nails last?

You should be able to wear a full set of gelly nail tips for up to 3 weeks with no problem.

However, if your nails grow very quickly, you may find that they start to lift at the edges after just a week or two.

The trick to making them last is to make sure that the nails are properly prepped.

If all the layers of your cuticles aren’t fully pushed back it can cause lifting.

Another tip is to use a very thin layer of builder gel. If you use too much, it can get messy.

What’s the difference between gelly tips and regular tips?

Here are a few key differences between gelly tips and normal ones:

The main difference is that regular nail tips are made from (ABS) plastic and gelly tips are made from soft gel.

Gelly tips and regular ones are also applied differently.

You use builder gel for soft gel tips instead of glue which is much better for your nails.

A soft gel manicure can also be applied close to the cuticle (even under the proximal nail fold.

Whereas plastic tips should be placed 2mm away from the cuticle.

Plastic tips also tend to be flatter, while soft gel tips have curves designed to wrap the nail better.

This curvature can sometimes be a problem though and you may need to “fill it in” with more gel if the curves are too deep.

The final difference is that gelly tips need to be roughed up at the back on the inside to help them stick.

This is an extra job that you don’t have to do with plastic press-on type nails.

Can you paint gelly tips before applying?

clairebrownartistry

Yes, you can paint your gelly tips before you put them on.

But bare in mind that the builder gel part can get a little messy.

I wouldn’t advise pre-painting unless you are confident that you can apply the nails without getting builder gel all over them.

You can use regular polish or gel polish to paint over your tips.

Don’t forget to buff out the shine first though for a longer-lasting manicure.

Can you cut gelly tips?

Most gelly tips come in different sizes so that you can find the perfect fit for your nails.

But if you need to, you can trim them down to size using a tip cutter.

You can also file them back into the desired shape if you want to.

Cutting and filing is not usually necessary though as most tips will already have the right shape and size.

If you do need to make any adjustments, just make sure that you don’t file too hard or you will weaken the tip and it may not stay on as well.

Final thoughts

Let’s have a quick recap of what we’ve learned.

Gelly nail tips are a newer type of soft gel nail extensions.

They are more flexible and natural looking than acrylic tips, but may not be as strong or durable.

You can apply them close to the cuticle and they need to be roughed up at the back on the inside to help them stick.

Gelly tips can last up to 3 weeks, depending on your nail’s growth rate, and you can paint them before or after applying.

I hope that this article has helped you to understand more about gelly nail tips and whether they are right for you.

What do you need to make press-on nails?

First things first.

What do you need to make press on nails?

The fake nails themselves come in a lot of different shapes and sizes.

So you don’t need to do much filing.

You can get coffin, almond, ballerina, stiletto nails, or any shape you like in a variety of lengths.

You can also cut them down with tip cutters if you need to.

A lot of the nail art stuff is optional.

It depends on what kind of designs you want to create.

Now that you know what you need, let’s move on to how to make fake nails step by step.

How to make press on nails step by step

Making your own press-on nails is easy and fun.

Here are the steps you need to follow to make custom press-on nails.

Prep your workstation

Make sure you have all the tools and materials you need before you start.

It’s also a good idea to lay down a towel or something similar to protect your surfaces.

Stick the glue dots to your display/painting stand

Using the glue dots helps to hold the nails in place so that you don’t have to hold them when you are painting.

Stick the sizes of press-on nails you want to the stands

It’s important to do this facing towards you and in the correct order to avoid confusion.

File and reshape any rough edges at the free edge

You don’t always need to do this, but sometimes you will find a jagged bit of plastic that needs smoothing out.

You may also want to reshape the nails a little but that’s up to you.

Buff the tips to remove any shine

Not everyone does this but I find that it’s essential to stop the gel polish from peeling off.

You could also apply a gel base coat if you want but I don’t and I find that my nails are absolutely fine without it.

Apply a coat of gel polish and cure for 30 – 60 seconds

Curing time depends on what type of lamp you’re using.

So follow the instructions for proper curing (30 seconds in LED, 2 minutes for UV lamps).

Apply a second coat of gel polish and cure for 30- 60 seconds.

Don’t forget to cap the free edge while you’re applying the gel polish.

Use a brush and a dotting tool to apply any painted nail art details and cure

This is where you can get creative with painting on tips, prints, etc.

Apply gems and bling using a wax pencil if desired

The wax pencil makes applying gems a lot quicker and easier.

Add a top coat

This seals everything in and adds shine.

Depending on the design, you may want to add a topcoat before you apply your gems.

That’s it! all that’s left to do now is sit back and admire your gorgeous nails!

Make your own press-on-nails kit

If you want to make a kit to sell then you’ll need a few extra bits and pieces to make everything look professional.

A good press-on nail kit should include instructions, promotional materials, and of course pretty packaging.

You may also want to send out a sizing kit or sizing instructions.

How to paint press-on nails

There are 2 main ways that you can paint your press-on nails.

The first is to apply gel polish just like you would in a salon and cure with a lamp.

This works very well but it can be time-consuming.

If you want to speed up the process, you could buy a makeup airbrush kit for spraying your press-ons in large batches.

How to hold fake nails while painting them

nail_in.it

You don’t want to be touching your nails while painting, so here’s what to do.

Get a display stand and some adhesive glue dots.

Stick the fake nails to the display stand using the crafting glue dots and then you can paint them without having to hold them at all!

Can you make money selling press on nails?

Absolutely!

Press-on nails are big business.

You need creative designs and an efficient production method to succeed.

You could make good money selling press-on nails if you find the right niche market and price them correctly.

How much money can you make selling press on nails?

This really depends on how popular your designs are and how well you market yourself.

If you’re just starting out, it’s probably best to sell them for around $20 a set.

As you become more well-known, you can start to charge more.

Do you need a license to sell press-on nails?

No, you don’t need a license to make and sell press-on nails.

You don’t need to be a licensed nail tech to do this as you are not working directly with the public.

However, it’s always best to check with your local authorities before setting up any kind of business.

Where to sell press-on nails

Here are some ideas for where you can sell your press-ons.

Offline: local beauty salons, markets, festivals, and fairs

Online: your own website, Etsy, Amazon, eBay

Social media: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter

What price range should you sell press-on nails for?

This really depends on the quality of your product and how much time and effort you put into each set.

I would suggest pricing them based on covering the cost of materials and labor and making a small profit to begin with.

You could also sell them in bulk for a discounted price if you have a lot of the same design.

How to package press on nails

My favorite way to package my nail sets is to use cotton-filled jewelry boxes like this.

They are super cute and look great with the nails inside.

You can bulk buy in lots of different designs too.

Press on nail packaging ideas

nail_in.it

You could also try making a pretty card and sticking your DIY press-on nails to it using glue dots.

You can then package the whole thing in a clear cellophane wrap or a ziplock-style bag.

See-through boxes and even gift bags can also work well.

Press on nails business supplies

You don’t need a fancy supplier to get DIY press-on nails supplies.

You can find everything you need on Amazon or even at your local beauty supply store.

I recommend buying the tips, instruction cards, and even the packaging online.

Where to buy blank press-on nails

Amazon is the best place to get blank press-on nails in bulk.

You can get them super cheap and they have a great selection.

Makarrt and Kokoist are two of the most popular brands.

They come in every size, shape, and length imaginable so you should easily find what you’re looking for.

Press on nail sizing

How important is sizing for press-on nails?

Sizing is very important when it comes to press-on nails.

Especially if you’re selling press-on nails.

You need to make sure that you have the right sizes and enough copies of the most popular sizes too.

I have a whole article dedicated to press on nail sizes and how they work here.

You should check it out if you want detailed info on sizing up press-ons and measuring your own nails.

Press on nail business names

nail_in.it

Your press on nail business should have a name that reflects your unique style and what you do.

It’s probably a good idea to use a recognizable nail-related word like ‘nails’ or ‘tips’ in your business name.

Some examples of cool press on nail business names are:

Nailedby…(your name)

Custom claws

Terrific talons

Coffin up diamonds

Final thoughts

So there you have it!

You now know everything there is to know about how to make your own press-on nails!

Whether you want to make press-on nails from scratch or start a press-on nail business, I hope that you found the ideas in this post useful and inspiring.

Completely confused about press-on nail sizes?

You are not alone!

When I first started buying press-on nails, I was clueless.

But since then I’ve picked up a few tips and tricks to get the perfect size press-on acrylics for my nails.

I’m going to share what I’ve learned in this post.

So let’s get straight to it.

Press on nails are quick, easy, convenient, and stunningly beautiful.

But there’s no way around it, you gotta do a little work to nail down the sizing.

I’ve put together this post to help explain how press-on nail sizing works.

By the time you’re done reading, you should feel super confident about measuring your natural nails and about what size press on nails you need.

Do press-on nails come in different sizes?

Yes, press-on nails do come in different sizes.

Press on nail sizes are measured in millimeters across the widest part.

The difference between the width of individual nail sizes is usually 1 mm.

The thumbnail size is typically 2 mm wider than the next widest nail in the pack.

Press on nails usually have numbers assigned to them.

The numbers may be 0-9 or 1-10 for instance.

Each of these 10 numbers corresponds to the size in mm.

So for example, a number 4 nail measures 13 mm at its widest part.

A number 3 nail measures 14 mm, and a number 2 nail measures 15mm.

This is a pretty standardized system but some brands do vary.

What sizes do press on nails come in?

In a pack, you could get up to 12 different press on nail sizes.

Usually, you’ll get more than 1 of the same size in case you have 2 or more nails that measure the same.

The more sizes that come in a pack, the better.

Especially if you don’t know your size and you want to experiment with what works for you.

Typically, press on nails come in packs of 24 to 30 nails in 10 to 12 different widths.

The length and the shape of the nails is not as important as the width when it comes to sizing.

What are the standard sizes for press-on nails?

As we’ve seen, sizing for press on nails is all about the width.

The standard sizing for press on nails is outlined below:

0 = 18 mm

1 = 16 mm

2 = 15 mm

3 = 14 mm

4 = 13 mm

5 = 12 mm

6 = 11 mm

7 = 10 mm

8 = 9 mm

9 = 8 mm

As you can see, the smallest size is 8 mm and the largest is 18 mm.

If your thumbnail measures 18 mm or less, you will be fine using a standard pack of press-on nails.

Otherwise, you may need to order something custom from a site like Etsy for example.

Don’t worry, most people’s nails fit into this standard sizing system.

These standard sizes can also be broken up into 3 general sizes. They are small, medium, and large.

You will sometimes see nails being sold this way.

As a general rule, packs typically contain sizes organized something like this:

L: 0-4-3-4-7 / 18mm / 13mm / 14mm / 13mm / 10mm

M: 1-6-4-5-8 / 16mm / 11mm / 13mm / 12mm / 9mm

S: 2-6-5-6-8 / 15mm / 11mm / 12mm / 11mm / 9mm

You may also see the press on nail sizes broken down like this:

XS – contains sizes 3-6-5-7-9

S – contains sizes 2-6-5-6-9

M – contains sizes 1-5-4-5-8

L – contains sizes 0-4-3-4-7

XL – contains sizes 0-3-2-4-6

What sizes should I use for press-on nails?

You should use the size that is the closest to your own nail when measured at the widest part.

Sometimes, you will find that you are between sizes.

If that’s the case you should always go for the one that’s slightly too big and file it down at the edges.

You may find that 2, 3, or even 4 of your nails are the same size, that’s absolutely fine.

Though you may need to purchase sets with more nails in them to ensure you get enough copies of the size you need.

Press on nail sizing – how to get the right size

There are a few different methods you can use to size up your nails.

Let’s go through them.

Use a sizing kit (or create your own)

There are plenty of different sizing kits available to buy online.

But you don’t really need to spend money on this unless you run a business and you want to hand pretty sizing charts out to your clients.

You can easily create your own sizing chart by following these steps:

1. Cut out a piece of paper or card into a rectangle. Make it big enough for you to write down the numbers of the fake nails that correspond to your thumb, index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers for both hands.

2. Try out the press on nails against your own nails and write the numbers 0-9 (or 0-12) of the ones that are the closest fit to each digit on the card.

That’s it, you now have a record of which press on sizes are right for your nails.

Sizing does vary between shapes, brands, etc so if you are a size 8 in an almond shape you may be a different size in a coffin or square for example.

Nail shape chart

Time for my next tip to help you size up your nails perfectly.

Use scotch tape

This is really easy to do and it’s the most accurate method of measuring your own nails.

You’ll need some scotch tape and a pen (biro).

Stick a piece of scotch tape to your nail and push it down firmly so that it shows your nail shape.

Mark the widest part between the sidewalls using a biro or ball point pen.

Don’t use a marker for this as the lines will be too thick.

Take the tape off and stick the tape with your markings on it to a flat surface (use your record card if you made one).

Measure the distance in mm with a tape measure or a ruler.

You can stick the tape to a card and note down the size and which finger it is so that you have all of your measurements together and you don’t have to do this again!

This is a more useful way to measure because this method works from the measurement of your natural nails and not the measurement of the fake ones.

This allows you to match up a variety of brands and shapes using your measurements.

How to measure press on nails correctly

Sometimes you might want to measure the artificial nail.

The best way to measure a press-on nail is to take your false nail and a tape measure.

Put the tape measure underneath the nail – this is important.

You don’t want to be measuring the top as this will change the measurements and won’t be as accurate.

You want to place the tape measure inside the curve of the nail on the underside and press down as you would to apply.

Then record your measurement in mm.

It’s worth noting that it’s much easier to see what you’re doing if you use a clear false nail for this.

You can then stick some clear tape to your real nail and mark the widest part of the sidewalls with a biro as outlined above.

Take the tape off and measure the distance between your markings with a ruler or tape measure.

Match the false nail size in mm to your natural nails and your nails should last a lot longer.

You don’t need the size to be exact, you can always file them down a little if needed.

Final thoughts:

There are a few different ways to size your nails, but the most accurate is to use scotch tape.

You can buy sizing kits, but it’s easy to make your own.

Press on nails vary in size depending on the shape, so it’s important to measure correctly.

I hope that this article has helped you to understand press-on nail sizes a little better.

Looking for tips on how to make press-on nails last longer?

Then read on my lovelies, because I’m about to share all my best tricks for making glue on nails last.

If you follow the advice in this post, your press-on nails will stay on as long as possible without popping off.

Let’s get right into it.

We’ll start by talking about the common reasons why glue on nails won’t stay on.

Hopefully, you’ll be able to identify your problem right away.

Why won’t my press-on nails stay on?

If your press-on nails refuse to stay on, it could be because you didn’t apply enough glue or didn’t cover the nail’s surface with the glue during application.

The problem could also be that you are using poor quality press-ons or the wrong size.

Longer false nails will not stay on as well because they tend to get caught on or bang against things which causes them to pop off.

If you don’t prepare well enough by buffing and pushing back cuticles, this can also cause a glue on manicure to come off too soon.

Another reason why they don’t stay on is that they were submerged in water for too long.

Or there could be too much oil on the nail plate.

Now that we know the most common reasons why they don’t stay on, let’s move on to the tips.

How to make press-on nails last

Here are my quick tips to help you make glue on nails last longer.

Clean your nails thoroughly before applying the glue. Dirt and oils on your nails can weaken the bond of the glue.

Roughen the surface of your natural nails with a file or sandpaper to give the glue something to grip onto.

Apply a thin layer of glue to your nails, avoiding getting any on your skin.

Hold the artificial nail firmly against your natural nail for at least 10-15 seconds, until the glue has started to set.

Avoid exposing your nails to water or moisture for at least an hour after applying the glue, as this can weaken the bond.

If you’re using a quick-drying glue, be extra careful not to move your nails around too much before the glue has set.

To make your glue last even longer, consider using a glue activator or primer, which can help to strengthen the bond between the artificial nail and the natural nail.

Choose good quality press ons

Poor quality fake nails are thin and bendy.

They tend to come in kits that have crappy glue that doesn’t bond and instructions that are not easy to follow.

Good quality press-on nails are made of thicker, harder plastic.

They have a curved shape which helps them fit your natural nail better.

You can find good-quality press-on nails like these at beauty supply stores or online.

Check the reviews before you buy to make sure you’re getting a good product.

Get a high-quality nail glue

Sometimes, you get a set of good quality nails that come with glue that’s not so great.

If you’re going to be wearing falsies a lot, it’s a good idea to invest in a high-quality nail glue like this one.

Using good quality nail glue is important for how long your press-on nails will last because it directly affects the strength and durability of the bond between the artificial nail and your natural nail. Here are a few reasons why using a high-quality nail glue is important:

Stronger Bond: Good quality nail glue is formulated to create a strong, long-lasting bond between the artificial nail and your natural nail. This means that your press-on nails are less likely to fall off or become detached, ensuring they last longer.

Improved Flexibility: A high-quality nail glue should be flexible enough to withstand normal movements and activities, such as typing or washing dishes. This helps to prevent the artificial nail from breaking or cracking, which can cause the bond to weaken.

Minimal Shrinking: Good quality glue should have minimal shrinkage when it dries, which means that there is less chance of the artificial nail lifting away from the natural nail. This can help to extend the life of your press-on nails.

Non-Toxic Formula: High-quality nail glue should be non-toxic, safe for use on your skin, and free from harmful chemicals. This is important for your overall health and well-being, as well as for the health of your natural nails.

By using a good quality nail glue, you can ensure that your press-on nails last as long as possible, without the risk of them falling off or becoming damaged.

Check out this video that explains why buying good quality press on nail glue is important and also how to apply your press on nails properly if you want them to last 2 weeks.

Get the sizing right

This is where a lot of people go wrong.

If you want your nails to last as long as possible, you need to choose the right size, shape, and length.

Unfortunately, this does take a bit of work.

But don’t worry, most fake fingernail packs come in a variety of sizes, and with a little practice, you’ll be sizing like a pro.

Prepare your nails properly

Nail prep is super important if you want your artificial nails to last.

You need to make sure your natural nails are clean and free of any oils.

You also need to push back your cuticles so that the false nail can sit flush against your real nail.

Here are the key steps to follow:

Nail prep for glue on nails

Wash your hands with antibacterial soap or dish soap and warm water to remove oil and prevent fungal infections.

Buff your natural nails to create a rough surface for the fake nail to bond to. Use a 180 grit nail file or buffing tool.

Wipe your nails with rubbing alcohol to remove oils, dust, and moisture before you start.

Push your cuticles back with a cuticle pusher.

Make sure your natural nails are dry (you can use a hairdryer on cool for 30 seconds).

Now you are ready to apply.

Follow your press-on nails instructions

The instructions for applying fake nails can vary according to the product you’re using.

For example, the length of time you need to hold the nail down or the amount of glue may be slightly different.

Always follow the instructions that come with your nails to get the best results.

Take care of your nails

Perfect prep and application mean nothing if you don’t look after your nails once they’re done.

So here are some tips for how to take care of glue on nails.

Don’t use your nails as tools. Be careful when opening cans or using keys.

Don’t submerge them in water – avoid swimming, wear gloves if you’re doing dishes and keep showers brief.

Use a scalp scrubber to help with washing your hair properly when you have your falsies on.

Avoid nail polish removers, acetone, and other harsh chemicals. Acetone will remove polish and glue.

Don’t apply cuticle oil until 24 hours have passed.

Use shorter press ons

My next tip to make your nails last longer is to go shorter.

If you have long nails, they are more likely to bend and break.

Shorter nails are also much easier to take care of and less likely to snag on things.

So if you want your press-on nails to last, go for a shorter length.

Use top coat on press on nails

A lot of people ask if they can use a topcoat nail polish on stick on nails.

The answer is yes, you can!

A top coat will not only make your nails look shiny and new but will also help to protect them from scratches.

It’s a good idea to apply a topcoat every few days to keep your nails looking good and help them last.

How do I keep my press-on nails from falling/popping off?

Even if you prep your nails perfectly and do everything right, sometimes your press-ons will still pop off.

You just have to accept that nails falling off is inevitable and be ready to fix it.

I know it’s super frustrating when your nails pop off.

It always seems to happen at the most inconvenient times!

I never go anywhere without nail glue, I put some in every jacket pocket and bag.

But to minimize popping, try doing the following:

Be gentle with your nails – don’t use them to pick things up or open cans.

Avoid getting your nails wet – take showers instead of baths and wear gloves when washing. dishes.

Apply a topcoat every few days to help seal the edges and keep your nails from lifting.

Try different types of glue – some people find that certain brands work better for them than others.

Make sure you press firmly against the nail bed when applying.

How long do press-on nails last without glue?

If you are using stick on nails without glue, but rather with adhesive tabs, then your nails should last for at least 48 hours.

With proper care, these adhesive nails can last for up to 5 days.

Can you use nail glue with press-on nails

Yes, you can and should use nail glue with your fake nail set.

Make sure that the glue is made specifically for false nails and that it is not too old.

How to glue fake nails

The trick to gluing on your nail set successfully is to cover both the whole surface of your own nails and the underside of each fake nail.

Then hold it down firmly for a minimum of 30 seconds.

How to make press-on nails thicker

If your press-on nails are too thin, they may bend or break easily.

If you bought thin press-ons, unfortunately, there’s not much that you can do to make them thicker.

You could try gluing a second set on top of the first to make them more durable, or you could add a topcoat which will help a little.

My advice is to find a high-quality brand that is strong and thick and stay with that.

You can also use clear nail glue to add a little thickness.

Apply it thinly so that it blends in and then file down the edges so they are seamless.

How to make press-on nails harder

If you want to make your press on nails harder so they last longer, then you can try using a topcoat.

A top coat will not only make your nails look shiny and new but will also help to protect them from scratches.

It’s a good idea to apply a top coat every few days to keep your nails looking good and help them last.

How to keep press on nails from bending

If your press-on nails are bending, try applying a nail hardener.

You can also add a layer of gel topcoat and cure, this will help strengthen the nails and stop them from bending as much.

How to make press-on nails look good

You want your press-ons to look as good as salon nails right?

Here are a couple of Tricks to help you do that.

How to make press-on nails look like acrylics

If you want your press-on nails to look more like acrylic, first cut and file the artificial nails down into the desired shape.

Then, apply them as tips and fill in the bottom with builder gel, poly gel, or homemade corn starch and nail glue.

Voila! Press on acrylic nails!

How to make glue on nails look real

What makes fake nails look fake is the length and the sizing.

If you get the sizing right (the false nail should fit the widest point between your sidewalls) then the nail will automatically look more natural and realistic.

How to store press-on nails

The best way to store your press-on nails is in a plastic storage container.

You can find these at any store or online.

Just make sure that the container has a tight-fitting lid so that the press-on nail doesn’t dry out.

You can also put your press-on fingernails in a zip-top baggie.

Let’s wrap this up

So there you have it!

All my best tips and tricks for making your press-on nails stay on for up to two weeks.

No more trips to the nail salon!

I hope that you found this useful.

Thanks for reading!

Enjoy your long-lasting manicure!

What are press-on nails and are they any good?

Let’s find out!

In the ’90s, fake nails had a bad rep.

Sizes were limited, color choices were basic, and you only had to look at them the wrong way and they’d pop right off.

But press-on nails have come a long way since then.

manixpressnails

Nowadays, you can get jaw-droppingly creative designs in a wide range of shapes and sizes.

Plus, the glue industry picked up a few tricks to get press-ons to stay on much longer.

Now, let’s nail down exactly what press-on nails are in the 2020s.

What are press-on nails?

Press-on nails are artificial nails that are placed on top of the natural nail.

Glue or adhesive tabs hold the fake nail in place.

Press-ons are usually plastic, but can also be made from acrylics or hard gels.

by.chloenails

They come in a wide variety of shapes, lengths, sizes, and finishes.

For example, you can get plain unpolished fake nails to paint yourself or you can get ready-to-wear nail designs dripping in gems.

Types of press-on nails

Let’s take a closer look at the main types of artificial nails you can buy.

There are literally thousands of brands of press-on nails.

To make life easier, I’ve broken fake nails down into 4 broad categories.

They are:

Plain plastic nails

This is often the cheapest and best value option for artificial nails.

A pack of 500 clear plastic nails like these almond-shaped ones should set you back around $10.

They come in a huge variety of shapes and lengths.

I found coffin, stiletto, and tapered square as well as the usual square, round, and oval.

These press-ons are cheap and beautifully shaped, but they don’t come with nail glue and you will need to paint them yourself.

If you already have gel polish or kick-ass nail art skills then this is a great option for you that allows you to flex your creativity.

Drug store nails

I’m calling this second category “drug store nails” because these are the types of press-ons that you are most likely to find in drug stores.

This category includes popular brands that are widely available and that are sold at competitive prices.

Brands like imPRESS, Kiss, Lottie London, la colors, and Dashing Diva fall into this category.

These press-ons are very affordable and come in solid colors as well as a huge range of cute and festive designs.

Luxury nails

This third type of press-on is a little more upmarket.

The quality of the nails may be better, or the designs may be more current, desirable, and/or exclusive.

A lot of these sellers are independent business owners who use Instagram to sell their creatively designed nails.

As you’d expect, they come with a higher price tag. Usually between $15 and $60.

Some example brands include Kuticle, Naileditbychelsea, and nailz_by_dev.

naileditbychelsey

kuticlequeen

nailz_by_dev

Handmade or handpainted nail sets

Have you ever wanted to design your own set of nails?

Buying handmade or custom-designed nails is the most expensive option for press-ons.

potty4pastels

This type of press-on nail set is usually acrylic, with designs that have plenty of wow factor.

Luxury sets may also be handpainted or fully customized to your liking.

Of course, this is more expensive because of the more elaborate nail art and how exclusive the nail designs are.

Prices start at $60 and the sky is the limit!

Swarovski crystal-covered coffins anyone?

Now that you know the different types of nails that are available, let’s talk about fake nail pros and cons.

What are the pros of press-on nails?

kurosun_

Why would anyone want to try out press on nails?

Here’s a list of the benefits of choosing press-on nails for your next manicure:

Saves you time – applying them is much quicker and easier than any other nail enhancement method.

Easy to apply – no drying time, no filing, no smudges, no hassle.

Cute designs – with no nail art skills needed.

They don’t chip – plastic is fantastic!

Can (sometimes) be reused – wear your favorite designs 2 or 3 times!

Kinder to your nails – no need for vigorous filing that can cause damage.

Easy to remove – they come off way easier than gel or acrylics.

Cheap – the cheapest nail enhancement option out there.

What is bad about press-on nails?

glamgoth

Press on nails can’t be all rainbows and unicorns, so what’s bad about them?

Here’s a list of the cons:

They pop off – at random times, in random places. Never leave the house without nail glue!

They’re not sustainable or environmentally friendly – well they are made of plastic.

They don’t last as long as acrylics or gel nails – If you can get them to last longer than 2 weeks you’re doing great!

This last point brings me to my next question. How long do they last for?

How long do press-on nails last?

10 days to 2 weeks is the average length of time you can expect to get from your press-on nails.

I can tell you from personal experience that some of your nails, maybe 1, maybe 5, or 6 are going to pop off at some point.

This is just something that you have to accept.

Your fake nails will require regular “maintenance” so keep some nail glue in your bag, car, and or office drawer.

Having said that, with proper nail prep and a good quality set, your press-on nails could last you for up to 3 weeks.

If you’re lucky.

What are press-on nails made of?

Most press-on nails are made from plastic.

But they can also be made from acrylic or hard gels.

Are press-on nails re-useable?

There’s a lot of debate about this.

My opinion? Yes, you can reuse press on nails but only once or twice before they start to look worn.

Of course, you’ll need to be careful with your nails, and be very patient, especially during the removal process, if you want to wear them again.

Make sure that the backs are completely free from old glue residue before you re-use your fake nails.

Do press-on nails ruin your nails?

Not at all.

If you apply and remove your nails properly, you shouldn’t have any problems with damage.

Be sure to use glue that is specifically designed for fake nails.

If you use super glue or any other adhesive that hasn’t been designed for nails, you will tear off the top layers of the nail plate which is very damaging.

If you want to avoid causing damage during the removal process, use hot soapy water instead of acetone.

Acetone is very drying to the natural nails, causing them to become brittle and split.

Try switching to an acetone-free nail polish remover if you have any of these problems.

Are press-on nails bad for your nail bed?

No, press-on nails are not bad for your nail beds.

If you experience any pain or discomfort when you are pressing down on your nails, it is probably a good idea to seek medical advice.

Do press-on nails come off easily?

Yes, press-on nails do come off easily.

This is a blessing and a curse.

On the one hand, you will need to keep nail glue handy in case you have a little accident.

But when it comes time to take your fake nails off, you should find that it’s quick and easy.

Are press-on nails safe?

Yes, press-on fake nails are safe to use.

However, the glue that is used to hold them in place can contain chemical nasties that can sometimes cause allergic reactions.

If this is a concern for you, try a non-toxic nail glue like this one.

How to avoid nail fungus with press-on nails

Fungus is another safety concern with this type of nail.

This can happen when you re-use your fake nails, so it’s a good idea to sterilize them before a second application.

You can easily do this by rubbing them with a wipe soaked in rubbing alcohol.

other tips to avoid nail fungus with press-ons are:

Use an antifungal spray or powder on your hands before you apply the nails

Make sure your nails are completely dry before applying artificial nails

Apply glue to your natural nail and the fake nail to ensure there are no air bubbles for bacteria to thrive in

These tips should help you to avoid nail bacteria and fungus when using press-ons.

Do you need a topcoat?

goglamke_

You don’t need to use a topcoat with press-on nails.

However, if you are using nail strips like color street, then adding a topcoat can help your nails to stay on longer.

If your fake nails are plastic, you don’t really need a top coat, but you can always add some if you want to.

Adding a top coat can give a glossy finish and could help your press-ons to last.

Can you shower with press-on nails?

Taking a quick shower in your press-ons is no big deal.

But if you’re washing your hair, you may find these tips useful:

keep it brief – short showers equal happy fake nails!

Cool it down – hot water and steam can cause your nails to come off.

Don’t scrub your scalp with your nails – get a scalp scrubber instead.

Can you do dishes with press-on nails?

No, you absolutely can not do the dishes with your press-on nails.

At least, that’s what I tell my husband!

Truth is, you can, but you might wanna change up your technique.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

Don’t dunk your hands in hot water – soak the dishes first then run the tap to rinse them.

Can you wash your hands with press-on nails?

Yes, you can and you should. No one expects you to go 2 weeks without washing your hands!

Can you swim with press-on nails?

Submerging your hands in water for longer than 20 minutes while wearing fake nails is asking for trouble.

Add that to the water pressure from swimming and you have yourself an anti-nail recipe, unfortunately.

FAQ’s:

What products can you use under fake nails?

You can use a nail primer, dehydrator, and nail glue under fake nails.

Can you put gel polish on press on nails?

Yes, you can put gel polish over the top of press-on nails.

But you don’t need to use a base coat underneath.

Do you need a base coat under press on nails?

No, you don’t need to use a base coat, however, if you want to add a basecoat to protect your natural nail, then you can.

Wiping your nail over with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol is all you need to do before applying the glue.

Can you use nail glue with press on nails?

You should always use glue that is specifically for applying fake nails.

This is because regular glue (especially superglue) is too damaging to the natural nail.

There are lots of different brands of press-on nail glue, so you can pick one that suits you best.

Can you put press on nails over gel polish?

Technically it’s possible, but not without damaging the gel manicure underneath.
